Today we finished lipids and proteins.

We will finish enzymes and nucleic acids on Monday.  Also we will be starting 2.2 so please read through it.

Remember to bring an egg and a potato Monday or Tuesday.

Today we went over Hess’s Law of Heat Summation.  Finish #’s 11-14 on page 681.  Read pages 685-687

• Bio 621

Today we dissected the Cow Eye.  You completed your lab sheets and the Post Lab questions.

You worked very well today – in your groups during the dissection AND when “working” through the Post Lab questions.

For Monday – study for your chapter 12 Test (Nervous System)!

 

Sept 29, 2016

Today we had a presentation at the beginning of class (electoral reform and about our choices in the plebiscite)

After two good cell poster presentations, we continued with lipids – in particular cholesterol.

For tomorrow:

read over 2.1 & 2.2 – review your questions that you answered last night

Remember picture order forms are due Monday AND you need an egg and a potato for next week.

Today we went through problems on 665-667 AND problems using a bomb calorimeter

For tomorrow:

Finish #’s 2, 3 &7 on page 676 on a separate piece of paper (to be handed in )

Today’s class was shortened due to the Terry Fox Walk/Run

We did however do:

cow eye dissection pretest

positive and negative feedback loops (antagonistic hormones)

hyposecretion VS hypersecretion of hormones

Tomorrow we will dissect the cow eye, do your post test questions/dissection worksheet AND start an assignment.  Please be on time and raring to go!

We finished your Hot/Cold Pack Lab and continued with chapter 17.

You then worked on chapter 1 Assignment #1.  If you didn’t hand it in today then it is due tomorrow.

Today we finished the eye.  Make sure you finish the path of light for tomorrow.

We then went through some “brain” and “senses” games.

We went through smell (olfaction) and started taste.  We will finish taste and the ear tomorrow.

Today we worked on the second part (wet mounts) of Microscope Lab #1.  The lab is due Wednesday Sept 21.  If you did NOT finish it, you must do so at lunch or after school next week.  See me Monday morning to set a ‘date’.

For Monday, please read through 1.3 paying close attention to the parts of the cell and the function of each.  You will be doing  a project on the cell (building, designing etc).  Details to come on Monday

We then went over the types of cells (prokaryotic VS eukaryotic cell, animal VS plant cell)

Tomorrow we will finish our microscope lab.

Reread 1.3 and familiarize yourself with the parts of the cell (organelles)

Today we learned how to calculate molar enthalpy (q=n^H)

We completed #’s 20-23 on page 645

Tonight please finish problems above (if you haven’t already) AND #’s 24, 25,26 & 28 on pages 648-649
